Coastal Restoration Project

The
coastal scrub habitat restoration project is aimed at bring the
habitat back to a condition of the past. It should also proved and
environment for the scrub jay. The threatened scrub jay has not been
seen in the park in at least five years. The area was mown and
mulched in March.
In addition, there is also a prescribed burn planed. The burn is
dependent on weather and availability of personal to conduct the
burn. Fire is part of Florida’s history.
Lightning would start burns providing a clearing of the environment.
To protect human habitats’, fires are extinguished quickly. This
creates overgrowth choking the environment.
