Accomplishments and Goals of the Friends

July 1 2006 – June 30, 2007 

Summary of accomplishments:

  1. Board approved written Finance Policy and Audit Procedures at September 20th Board Meeting.
  2. Conducted two Bonsai Workshops on September 9th and created two Bonsai for Chance Drawings.
  3. Established Second Saturday Plant Sales as a monthly event.
  4. Sponsored the Fourth Annual Herbs in the Gardens on October 14th with demonstrations and sales of plants and merchandise.
  5. Participated with information booth in Flagler County Creekside Festival on October 21st at Princess Preserve.
  6. Sponsored Tea with Mrs. Claus on December 2nd for 48 5 – 7 year olds with crafts, stories, photos, and songs and sharing with Mrs. Claus.
  7. Provided Park support for an abbreviated daytime Holiday in the Gardens with a bag folding party, sales of baked goods and refreshments, citrus, Friends Merchandise, plants and Santa Photos on December 9th .
  8. Raised over $3,000 for the Park Endowment Fund and added 13 Memberships during a special Holiday social. .
  9. Sponsored Fourth Annual Citrus Festival on February 10th in cooperation with the Flagler County Master Gardeners with demonstrations, Garden Café and Plant sales..
  10. Sponsored the Annual Earth Day Celebration on April 21st and 22nd.
  11. Conducted two Orchid Workshops on May 12th.
  12. Established a committee to prepare a PIP for projects to assist the Park in achieving the improvements set forth in the Park’s ten year plan.
  13. Sponsored Kids Saltwater fishing workshops in July.
  14. Continue sponsorship of Kayak tours.
  15. Conducted plant sale and Garden walks during National Garden Week in June.
  16. Published a Bi-Monthly Newsletter.

July 1 2007 – June 30, 2008 

Summary of goals for the upcoming year:

  1. Complete the nomination of Washington Oaks Gardens Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places.
  2. Implement new signage in the Park to assist visitors, including information about the National Historic District.
  3. Conduct two Fern Workshops in September and two Rose Workshops in May.
  4. Sponsor the Annual Herbs in the Gardens demonstrations and sales in October.
  5. Sponsor Tea with Mrs. Claus for 5 – 7 year olds in crafts, stories, photos, songs and sharing with Mrs. Claus.
  6. Provide support for Holiday in the Gardens in December with bag folding party, sales of baked goods and refreshments, citrus, Friends merchandise, plants and Santa photos.
  7. Sponsor the Annual Citrus Harvest Festival in February. .
  8. Sponsor the Annual Earth Day Celebration in April, selling Friends merchandise, plants and refreshments and the Kids Activities Area with support from the Flagler Kiwanis Club.
  9. Sponsor Kids Saltwater workshops in July.
  10. Sponsor Kayak Tours, including Birds of the Salt Marsh and Indians of the Estuary.
  11. Publish a Bi-Monthly Newsletter.
  12. Establish a Friends WEB Site ~ Completed
  13. Conduct Semi-Annual Membership Orientations
