Volunteer at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park!
Are you looking for a great way to give back to your community? There are a many volunteer opportunities available. You do not have to join the Friends of Washington Oaks to become a volunteer! Here are a few of the opportunities that await! |

Special Events Volunteer- Special Events Volunteers assist in the production and presentation of events and festivals at the Park. As members of the Events Committee, volunteers will make decisions to help our events succeed! Other Special Events Volunteers may be involved in baking a variety of different 'treats' for a designated Bake Sale, as a parking attendant, or many other jobs depending on the event.
Publicity Volunteer- Publicity volunteers assist with the production of media releases, creating and posting event announcements on various local calendars, designing fliers, maintaining social media sites and helping plan and publicize special events. Volunteers will work closely with the Park Services Specialist in charge of volunteer coordinating and event planning. Computer skills are required for this volunteer position.
Gift Shop Volunteer- Gift Shop Volunteers are responsible for selling Friends gift shop merchandise to guests and operating the point of sale cash register. During a work shift a volunteer will keep merchandise displays orderly, dust, sweep and perform other such tasks as time allows to keep the shop in good order. Gift Shop volunteers are encouraged to learn the responsibility of opening and closing the shop. Some volunteers may be given the responsibility of a key to open and close the shop. (Perfect opportunity for a volunteer pair, husband and wife or two friends who would like to volunteer together! This is not required though)
Greenhouse and Plant Sale Volunteer- A greenhouse and plant sale volunteer helps maintain the plants for the Friends of Washington Oaks Second Saturday Plant Sales. This volunteer would need to attend propagation days on Thursdays with other greenhouse volunteers and help on Second Saturday Plant Sales. Duties include: weeding, transplanting, planting, trimming, displaying, and pricing plants.
Friends Board Member - Volunteers who serve on the Board of Directors of the Friends will contribute to Friends of Washington Oaks, Inc. awareness to the general public and participate in the management of this 501(c)3 not for profit corporation. Board members are encouraged to serve on a finance or special events committee, or perform a specific board member position for example: treasurer, secretary, membership chair. A board member has great communication skills and is a team player. Board members support the mission of the Friends which is to preserve, protect, promote, and interpret Washington Oaks Gardens and Faver-Dykes State Park.
Garden Maintenance Volunteer- Garden volunteers work with the park staff to maintain and improve the formal gardens of Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. Duties include: weeding, transplanting, planting, trimming, mowing, and pruning when/where needed.
All volunteers are asked to provide excellent visitor services by assisting visitors in a courteous manner. As park ambassadors it is required to practice good communication skills while informing visitors on park history, park amenities and park events. All necessary training will be provided.
